On November 10, 2022, my precious boyfriend became my fiancé! To say I’m excited is an understatement! I cannot wait to marry my best friend!
While I as suspicious that a proposal was looming, I was surprised when it actually happened. Let me explain why I was suspicious, so you don’t think I was a nosey girlfriend who found a ring or something because I did not and I didn’t have any interest in seeing my ring before the moment Lance got down on 1 knee. The first suspicious thing happened a few months ago when Lance and my dad went golfing just the two of them. This wasn’t super random because they had talked about golfing before, but it was suspicious because neither of them told me they were going golfing until the day of. I knew this was probably when Lance was asking my dad for his permission, and that was pretty much confirmed the next day when my dad asked me how much weddings cost out of the blue. The next suspicious thing was surrounding plans for our anniversary. Lance planned our first anniversary dinner, so I asked if I could plan this years and he said no and wouldn’t give me any details. This made me think he was probably planning to propose on our anniversary, which is November 12th. The last and most obvious suspicion came from Lance pushing me to get my nails done on the Monday before he proposed (he proposed on a Thursday) when I had an appointment scheduled for that Friday. Despite my suspicions I was still skeptical that anything was happening that week because our dog, Jordan, had surgery to remove a mast cell tumor at the end of October and that really threw a wrench in all of our future planning.
Now onto the proposal story…since Jordan was diagnosed and we weren’t sure what his prognosis would be, I decided to set up a photographer to come to my house and take some family photos of us to have just in a case. I saw Joanna (check out her Instagram) post in a Facebook group about offering photo sessions to grow her portfolio, so I DMed her. She was the sweetest and offered to do these pictures for free because she knew how much vet bills cost, and I truly can’t thank her enough for that. So I mentioned it to Lance that I set this photoshoot up for November 10th right after work and that it wouldn’t take long, but I wanted him to look presentable. Somehow Lance figured out what photographer I was using and snuck in to message her and let her know he was going to use this as an opportunity to propose. Little did I know that before Jordan’s surgery, Lance’s plan was to hire a photographer to do Christmas pictures the morning of our anniversary and propose then, so I guess I kind of hijacked his idea without even knowing. We were taking pictures with the dogs, and then Joanna suggested putting them inside so we could get a few of just me and Lance. All of a sudden Lance started shifting and I looked over and he was getting on one knee. We both blacked out a little and I really don’t know what he said or if I even said yes, but I am so glad we have the pictures of it happening. I was super surprised, and in shock, but so so happy! We brought the dogs back out for a few more pictures before Joanna headed out.
We spent the rest of the evening telling our friends and family then had a sushi dinner. I absolutely loved having a simple engagement with just the two of us so we could really enjoy it together. I am so excited for wedding planning and getting to spend the rest of my life with Lance! Also, Jordan’s tumor came back with a low grade, and he’ll have one more surgery but will hopefully be with us for many more years to come!!
