Hi y’all! I’ve been asked a few times how I manage to have a white couch and a black dog. Let me tell ya, it is NOT easy nor fun. My two biggest tips are SLIPCOVERS! and vacuuming often! My couch and chairs are from Pottery Barn, and have removable machine washable slipcovers. I try to wash them once a month. However, I need to keep the fur at bay in between washes. I decided to test out a bunch of gadgets from Amazon and give y’all my opinions on what is worth it and what you should save your money on.
Here is my cushion that hasn’t been washed in a month (don’t worry it is in the washer now lol). I used each product down one section of the cushion, and unfortunately the “after” picture didn’t show what I wanted it to, but I did notice that certain products worked way better than others. Here is my ranking from best to worst!
I’ve had this little hand held vacuum for a while, and I love it. It is $36 and worked the best out of all 5 things I tried! The rubber tip grips the hairs and pulls them out of the fibers of the fabric.
I was not expecting big things from this product, but at $8 I thought it couldn’t hurt to try it, and I loved it! It is a tacky sponge and not only picked up the pet hair, but also dirt from the cushion. It is also much easier to grab than the vacuum, so I think I will end up reaching for this a lot.
I decided to compare two things that most people already have in their homes, and the lint roller actually proved to be pretty effective. It would take multiple sheets of sticky paper, but when you can get a 5 pack of rollers for $15 it is a cost effective pet hair remove strategy. It wouldn’t be my first choice, but it’s cheap and it does work.
Chom Chom Roller Pet Hair Removal
I had high hopes for this product after seeing this product on multiple blogs and reading the amazing reviews it had, but I am going to be honest- I was disappointed. It took a lot more swipes for it to pick up as much hair as any of the above products. I do like the design of the product because it keeps the dog hair contained in a little compartment so you aren’t having to clean off the roller part or replace tape. However, at $25 I do not think this product works well with the amount of dog hair I have in my home. I am going to try it a few more times and see if my mind changes, but I may end up returning it.
This was a method I found in a Google search, so I decided to try it. It did work! However, it is so not practical with a dog that sheds as much as Corona. If you have a small area you are trying to remove dog hair from and you don’t have anything else, you can get the hair off easily by using a damp rubber glove. I will probably never have a small enough area to clean, but it was fun to test it!
If y’all have any other suggestions for products to try to remove dog hair (from the furniture or the dog) let me know in the comments!
