So you are throwing a party but not sure where to start? Well lucky for you, I have found a passion in party/event planning in my post pandemic life and I’ve picked up a few tricks along the way. The easy (usually) part is figuring out a reason to have a party; usually this is based around a holiday or major life event. In the past 2 years, I’ve thrown an engagement party, birthday parties, Halloween parties, Christmas parties, a bachelorette party and a few random themed parties just for fun.
The key to making a “normal” celebration fun is to add a theme to it if you can. For example, this past March I threw a birthday party for my boyfriend, Lance, but instead of it just being a birthday party I made it an “anything but cups” party. Everyone had to bring something to drink out of that wasn’t a cup, and it was a blast! Here is a TikTok video showcasing all of the unique drinking vessels. We even add extra elements to parties that already have a built in theme; for Halloween we required costumes to be of iconic TV commercials which made it a little more challenging but a lot more creative. Also, I am in the process of planning my second annual Fancy Christmas Party; this is a dinner party which has a strict cocktail attire dress code and also a White Elephant gift exchange.
Some events are a little harder to add a theme to, but decorating for the celebration is a great way to make it more special. If you go all out with the decor then the celebration will be even more fun. Here are a few of my favorites from the last 2 years:
I’ve learned that you can celebrate just about anything, so don’t stress too much about picking a theme. Just have fun with it!! In part 2, I’ll be sharing the timeline I follow to get everything done before a party!
