My Home Exterior Transformation

May 1, 2020

This is the most exciting transformation I’ve ever shared on my blog. I never thought I would be so excited about the exterior of my house, but OMG it’s so much better. I didn’t think the exterior of my house was bad before by any means, but it definitely needed some work.

I worked with an amazing father/daughter contractor team on all of the renovations for my house. If anyone in the Raleigh area needs a contractor, I highly highly recommend John and Haley from Right Direction Homes.

There were quite a few problems with the house that needed to be fixed. To start there was tons of aluminum siding on my house that was not in good shape and needed to go. We knew the porch wasn’t level and sloped down on the left side. When we took the old siding off, we quickly realized the porch was basically being held up by 3 nails. The columns were so rotten that it was a miracle nothing had collapsed. Luckily the corbels on the dormers were not in as bad of shape and I was able to save them.

The rotten column

All of the aluminum siding was replaced with hardy plank, and that alone really made a difference! We also decided to square off the front of the porch, which really streamlined the look of the house without taking away any of the charm.

The next step in the process was painting the exterior. The color is Arcade White by Sherwin Williams and it turned out great, but you can see in the picture below the house looks a little washed out after the paint was done, but that changed quickly.

The final upgrade was the roof and man did it make the house pop!! I knew I would need a new roof in the next few years so I decided to just get it over with while I was working with my contractor and had a dumpster in my driveway. I chose a charcoal shingle and it looks great!

These were all of the major updates I knew I wanted to do, but there was one more small detail I knew I wanted, and that was a pink front door! I bought the door at Home Depot and my amazing dad painted it and hung it for me!! I am obsessed with how great it looks! This may be the only time in my life I can get away with a pink front door, so I ran with it. The pink color is Pure Pink by Benjamin Moore, which lives up to its name because it is the perfect bubble gum/pepto pink!

Thank you so much, Casey!! I’m getting a little bolder with color in this one. Still obsessed with your blue cabinets, but not quite brave enough for that yet haha!

Welcome to Bluebonnet Porch! I’m Clare, a 30 year old newlywed living in Raleigh, NC with her husband and two dogs! I bought my (well, now I guess it’s our’s) house in 2020 when I was a single 25 year old and have spent the last 4 years renovating it and making it my dream house! It is a 100ish year old craftsman bungalow in Downton Raleigh, North Carolina, and I pinch myself every day that I get to live here.

I love all things home decor, DIY, food, entertaining, reading, and working out, and I can’t wait to share more about my life with y’all!
