Hey y’all! My kitchen had a very dramatic makeover this week and I am loving it! I got my cabinets painted from brown to white, but there are still a few other things I want to do to the space before I’ll consider it “done”. However, today I wanted to share the process in getting my cabinets painted, so anyone who is interested can know what to expect.
I live in a townhouse, so I have a pretty small kitchen, which made everything faster and cheaper. Keep the size in mind when going into a renovation like this because the more cabinets there are to paint, the more expensive it will be and the more time it will take.
The Estimate
I got a recommendation from my real estate agent for a painting company; I sent them an email expressing my interest and within a few hours I had an estimate scheduled for later that week. The guy from the painting company (his technical title was Project Manager) came out, looked at my kitchen, took some photos, and then discussed their process with me and answered all of my questions. A few days later he sent me an estimate of the costs, and that was exactly what it ended up costing me, so there were no hidden fees or anything!
The Prep
The only prep I had to do before the painters came was take everything out of the drawers in my kitchen and clean off the counters. They moved all of the furniture out of the room and covered everything with plastic. The doors and drawers were removed and they painted those out behind my house. They were able to prep everything the first day and prime the cabinets.
The Painting
The company I used worked with Sherwin Williams products, so I ordered picked up some paint swatches a few weeks prior to them doing the painting. Once I narrowed down my choices to three, I ordered larger removable swatches from samplize.com. It was so helpful to see the paint swatches on a larger scale without having to actually buy test sizes of the paint. The color I ended up choosing was Sherwin Williams Greek Villa.
Timeline
The whole project only took 3 days for the team to complete, and I scheduled my final walk through on the 4th day. Their original estimate thought it would take 4 full days to get everything done, but they had a team of 4 working, so it ended up being much quicker. My kitchen and basement (the door faces were drying down there) were completely unusable for these 3 days, but it was not that bad.
Cost
Here’s the big question that I was most curious about. How much did this whole process cost? Well for my small kitchen it was a little less than $2400. I think it is well worth the money because I knew this was something I could not DIY and make last. The kitchen gets used so much that I wanted to invest in it and get it done right!
I can’t wait to share the rest of the kitchen with y’all once I update it some more!
