Happy New Year’s Eve! I am super excited for a “fresh start” this new year. In 2018, I started Bluebonnet Porch and am hoping to grow it a ton in the new year! I don’t necessarily like to make resolutions for the new year but rather set goals. Of course I want to do the typical things like eat healthier and workout more, but without specific measurable goals, I won’t accomplish anything. A lot of my goals are wellness focused and meant to create a lower stress lifestyle for myself. Hopefully, writing them here will make me more likely to accomplish them an stick to my action plans.
Stick to a Cleaning Schedule
I made a cleaning schedule in July and stuck to it pretty well for about 2 months, but completely fell off of it when my work schedule got hectic. I have tasks separated out for each day of the week, so if I keep up with it, I won’t be stressed come Sunday to do everything.
Save $200 a Month
I am not good at saving money, and it is something that I really want to do to start setting myself up for a better future. Get paid twice a month and I’ve created a budget for myself and know that I can afford to put at least $100 from each paycheck in my savings account. Hopefully, I can save more than this, but this is my minimum goal.
Create a Healthy Bedtime Routine
Falling asleep has always come easy for me, but I do not get the most restful sleep and I struggle to get up in the morning. I want to create a bedtime routine that does not include any screens and will help me relax and take my mind away from work, Instagram, the blog, etc.
Read a Book a Month
This kind of goes along with the goal above, but I’d love to set aside time each night to read a book instead of being on my phone. I used to love to read, but ever since I graduated college and started a big girl job, I haven’t been able to finish a book. Each month I will share a review of the book I read that month, so y’all can hold me accountable if I don’t accomplish this goal!
Don’t Hit Snooze
This is more of a resolution than a goal. I want to quit hitting the snooze button in the morning. I have read so many articles about how bad it is for you to snooze each day, so I need to learn to just get my butt out of bed and start my day. I am hoping that my bedtime routine goal will help with this goal.
Run a 10K
I have always enjoyed running (to an extent), and have started training for multiple half marathons, but always end up with an injury. This year I’ve decided to focus on a 10K and see how I feel after that. My knees may not be able to handle 13.1 miles anytime in the next 365 days, so I don’t want to set myself up for failure.
I have my eyes set on the Cooper River Bridge Run in Charleston, SC in April, so we’ll know pretty quickly if I make this happen or have to push it back to the fall. I want to take my time training and only add mileage when I feel my body can handle it.
Pursue Interior Design
My passion is interior design and I would love to be able to create a career in it. However, I do not have the ability to go back to school and earn my degree in it at this time. I found an online certification course that I plan to take, and I want to take full advantage of it and learn as much as I can!
Blog Consistently
My blog has been so much fun for me the past few months, and I want to expand it in 2019. I know the best way to get a jump on this is to post consistently. I plan to post 3 times a week and provide great content for my audience. Please let me know what y’all would like to see this year on Bluebonnet Porch, so I can make sure I am providing what you want to read!
My action plan for this goal includes pre-writing my blogs and scheduling them to post, create a content calendar to help me stay on track, and set aside time each day/week to work on my blog.
Reach 10K Followers on Instagram
This is a big one for me and reaching for stars very far away from where I currently am. As I write this post, I have less than 500 followers on Instagram, but I truly believe that with consistency, hard work, and unique content, I can make this happen! If you are not already following me on Instagram please do, you can find me here!
Volunteer
I was in a sorority in college, so I was volunteering all the time for various organizations around Wilmington. I really enjoyed it, but didn’t make the connections I should have to continue volunteering with those same organizations when I moved to Raleigh. My mom is an extremely active volunteer with Make A Wish of Eastern North Carolina, and I would love to volunteer with them or a similar organization who’s purpose is to help sick children. I am hoping to find an organization and start volunteering by the end of February.

I like your goals and think they are very achievable. I’m looking forward to hearing about the books you read and where you decide to volunteer.
