Kitchen Transformation Reveal

May 25, 2020

I am so excited to finally share this post! My kitchen was the biggest interior renovation in my house, and I am obsessed with it! The kitchen was added to the house in 2002 and was very outdated. Here are some before pictures for reference…

I kept the layout of the kitchen the same as it was previously, but I dropped the original bar down to counter height. It made a huge difference! I wanted to change the layout, but spacing wouldn’t have allowed for an island, so keeping the peninsula actually worked best and allowed me to save a ton of money by just painting the cabinets (SW- Extra White).

Along with painting the cabinets, I changed the flooring. I chose a super long tile in a charcoal color! It took the tile guy forever to lay it in a herringbone pattern, but I think it was worth it! It adds just enough contrast to the rest of the white kitchen, and it hides dirt and hair that the dog tracks in and sheds.

I also changed the countertops to a white quartz and added a simple white subway tile just like the one I had in my old townhouse. I finished off the kitchen with black hardware on all of the cabinets and new pendant light fixtures.

I have to give a huge shoutout to my contractor for taking my vision and making it come to life. Due to the current state of the world, I wasn’t able to go to tile shops and stone yards, so she would take pictures and pull samples and always found exactly what I had described on her first try. Again, if you are in the Raleigh area and need a contractor, please let me know because Haley was the best!!

I didn’t notice the herringbone floor when you posted on Instagram. It looks AMAZING!

Welcome to Bluebonnet Porch! I’m Clare, a 30 year old newlywed living in Raleigh, NC with her husband and two dogs! I bought my (well, now I guess it’s our’s) house in 2020 when I was a single 25 year old and have spent the last 4 years renovating it and making it my dream house! It is a 100ish year old craftsman bungalow in Downton Raleigh, North Carolina, and I pinch myself every day that I get to live here.

I love all things home decor, DIY, food, entertaining, reading, and working out, and I can’t wait to share more about my life with y’all!
