Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a good weekend and anyone affected by Hurricane Florence is safe. Raleigh was extremely lucky and did not get hit directly by Florence, but my college town, Wilmington, was not so lucky. Wilmington, New Bern, Topsail, and other coastal areas were devastated by the storm and the flooding continues to get worse. Many of my friends still call Wilmington home, and quite a few of them were not able to evacuate out of Wilmington. It is tough to see a place that means so much to me struggle so much. Luckily there are ways we can help, whether or not you are in the Carolinas.
Monetary donations are probably the easiest and most useful way to help with relief efforts. Michael Jordan put together a website with reliable sites to donate to. If you didn’t know, Michael Jordan grew up in Wilmington and attended Laney High School, so this storm hit close to home for him.
The Diaper Bank of North Carolina is also collecting monetary donations as well as donations of diapers and personal care items. They have set up an Amazon wish list (click here) that you can purchase from and have the supplies sent directly to them.
The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina is another great organization to donate to. They are collecting monetary help as well as food to help the victims that are currently cut off from the rest of the state.
I also want to recommend that you follow @WeWilmRebuild on Instagram. They are a UNCW student run organization that has started up to help with the recovery. They are posting drop off locations for supplies as well as other ways to help.
Please continue to keep the areas affected in your thoughts! These communities are strong and will rebuild, but they will need as much help as possible.
