I’ve watched enough HGTV in my 24 years of life to know that bathrooms and kitchens are what sell houses, so before I moved in, my mom and I prioritized these two spaces and made upgrades. However, I also know from my HGTV experience that you don’t want to invest too much into a house that has a “ceiling” for how much you can sell it for.
The bathroom still had all of the builder grade fixtures (see below), which needed to go!! I’ve rounded out my list of changes we made and how we did it as affordably as possible.
1.Marble Countertops
My mom is kind of a genius, and went to a local stone remnant yard and found all of the stone for all three of my bathrooms. They offer all remnants at a flat rate, so for smaller areas like bathrooms, this is a great option!
2. Mirrors
The large unframed mirrors that are standard in a lot of houses are just not the most aesthetically pleasing. We took them out of all of the bathrooms before we had the house painted. We replaced them with cute framed mirrors that we found at Home Goods for under $50 each. Mirrors can make such a big impact in a bathroom, and they are so easy to replace!
3. Light Fixtures
I’m sorry, but those ugly globe type lights are just hideous and I can’t stand them. I also don’t think that they give off great lights. We didn’t necessarily search for the cheapest lighting fixtures, but rather the ones that would give off the more lights. We decided on the Timeless Schoolhouse Bath Light from Shades of Light, and I love how they turned out!
4. Faucets and Knobs
Switching out the faucets and knobs can update a whole room without costing too much. We chose chrome faucets and new knobs on the cabinets from Anthropology.
5. Shower Curtains and Rugs
The easiest way to change the feel of the bathroom is by changing the shower curtain. I’m currently on my 3rd since I’ve lived here.
